Our Rector, Hugo Lavados Montes, holds a degree in Business Administration from the Universidad de Chile and a Master’s in Economics from Boston University, USA. He brings extensive experience from both the private and public sectors, having held several high-profile roles throughout his career.
Notably, he served as Chile’s Minister of Economy between 2008 and 2010. He was also Director of ProChile from 2000 to 2006 and Superintendent of Securities and Insurance from 1990 to 1994.
A prolific author, Hugo Lavados Montes has published numerous books and articles on economics. In academia, he has had a distinguished career at Universidad San Sebastián, where he served as a professor and Dean of the School of Economics before being appointed Rector from 2014 to 2018—and currently holding the position once again.
