In recent years, Universidad San Sebastián has experienced remarkable growth in research, positioning itself as the second leading non-traditional private university in terms of scientific publications indexed in Scopus, with more than 800 publications in 2024. The university also manages 140 research projects funded by Chile’s National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) and offers ten doctoral programs — seven of them accredited — in fields such as biomedicine, biotechnology and data science, exact sciences, psychology and mental health, engineering, and the humanities.
This growth has been driven by the incorporation of faculty members with diverse research backgrounds, the establishment of open institutional laboratories, and sustained institutional support that enables the development of active doctoral faculties and research groups across its campuses in Santiago, Concepción, Valdivia, and Puerto Montt.
In this way, the university fosters the exchange of ideas, exploration, and interdisciplinary collaboration, enabling USS to host relevant and meaningful research capable of addressing complex societal challenges.
The research conducted by Universidad San Sebastián’s academic community enhances the education of its students, in an environment that encourages the continual updating of knowledge, forward thinking, and critical reflection. With this approach, USS actively contributes to the strengthening of the national scientific system and higher education in Chile.
